Born in 1964, Midnapore (West Bengal), Ratan Saha received his Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts from the Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata in 1985 and his Masters in Creative Sculpture, from the Faculty of Fine Arts, M.S.U., Baroda in 1993. Saha is concerned with the problem of space and dimension is clearly evident in the manner he treats the forms in his work, they are not merely seen from one point of view but looked at from all angles. The artist's oeuvre is imbued with the rich tapestry of Indian culture. Within his creations, one can discern a profound homage to the essence of India, where ghungaroo, symbolic of traditional dance, intertwine with motifs drawn from nature's bounty, and the energetic presence of Shiva, resonating with spiritual depth. Bells, reminiscent of those adorning Indian temples, add a melodic touch to the artist's narrative. These elements collectively evoke a vivid portrayal of India's heritage, seamlessly woven in together using meticulous craftsmanship.
